First Circular
The department of Mining Engineering of Indian Institute of Technology , Kharagpur , set up in 1956, is unique and one of the strongest departments in India in imparting mining engineering education and research. It is offering undergraduate , postgraduate and doctoral programs. This department is continuously striving for technical innovation, very high quality research and consultancy works in various mining related areas including development of new course curriculum and continuing education over the past 50 years. On the occasion of its Golden Jubilee celebration , the department is organizing an International Symposium on Advances in Mining Technology and Management (aimm-2005).

This conference will throw lights on latest developments in mining technology and management around the world regarding new strategies for further research and development.

It will act as a platform and will provide an opportunity for sharing the latest global know-how among the participants. The three days conference will include plenary, parallel sessions, key note addresses and a panel discussion to deliberate on the following themes and the associated sub-topics.

ABOUT IIT, KHARAGPUR
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IITKGP) is set in a sylvan surrounding and only 120kms away from the hustle bustle of the city of Kolkata. IITKGP is the largest technical institution in India and ranked as the best Institution in the country imparting technical education and research. Visitors may also pass by the large city of Kolkata on their way in and out of Kharagpur. Kolkata, the city of joy, is one of the oldest cities in India. It is located in the eastern part of the country and is situated besides the holy river Ganges. CLIMATE
The climate in the month of November/ December is generally pleasant. Light woolens will be necessary during the evening and morning hours. The temperature will be between 15°C - 25°C.

TOURS AND TRAVELS

Digha Beach
It is close to the border with Orissa, 80 km away from IIT, Kharagpur. The beach is seven km long and wide. Here Hooghly become indistinguishable from the bay of Bengal. It is a popular resort for residents of Kolkata and Kharagpur. Sea bathe, swim or stroll on this splendid beach town famous for its stretch of flat, hard beaches girdled with casuarinas plantations along the coast, Digha is a 2 hour drive from IIT, Kharagpur .The season to visit is on the entire year round. However, the best time of the year is July to March.

Vishnupur
Vishnupur is famous for its distinct style of music, i.e. the Vishnupur Gharana. A discerning visitor may find traces of the past splendour and glory that was Vishnupur in its superb temples ,unique handicrafts and palaces.

Puri
Abode of Lord Jagannatha, literally Lord of the World, Puri is one of the four holy places in India. Located on the shores of Bay of Bengal, it has one of the finest beaches in the world. Puri is situated at sea level. It has an equitable type of climate, with maximum temperature varying between 25-33 degree Celsius and minimum temperature varies from 18-26 degree Celsius. November to March is the best time to visit Puri.
