The Department of Mining Engineering offers Master of Technology, Doctor
of Philosophy,--in each case the degree candidate is supervised by
an advisory chair and committee. The Department offers the "traditional"
M.Tech and Ph.D. degrees which emphasize technical skills.
Adimissions to the M.Tech Program
based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conduted
by IIT' and IISc every year for different disciplines. Self
- financing and sponsered candidates with minimum of two years relevant
experience based on written test and interview performance.
to this programme is through interview and selection. The candidates should
have first class / division at M.Sc. / M. Tech. level. Students with Bachelors
Degree in Engineering / Technology can also apply provided they have
excellent academic records. In any case the candidate must qualify through
GATE / NET (National Eligibility Test). Sponsered candidates from reputed
industries, R&D laboratories and National Laboratories may be
exempted from GATE / NET.
The primary strengths of the Department of Mining Engineering are its faculty
and its curricula. Each faculty member has extensive experience in both
scholarly research and in practical applications of Mining engineering
technologies. The graduate course curriculum stresses expertise in the
fundamentals of math, physics and engineering science Most importantly,
the graduate curriculum emphasizes skills in drilling, production, and
planning that industry requires of its practicing engineers.
